The exhibition KEIKOPPEN takes a fresh look at the rich oeuvre of Lucien De Gheus (1927-2013), an idiosyncratic artist from Poperinge. Sculptor, painter, designer, ceramist and glass artist, De Gheus knew how to interweave traditional art forms with modern influences. KEIKOPPEN celebrates his unlimited creativity and unique artistic voice. Curators Siegrid Demyttenaere and Marie Mees drew inspiration from De Gheus’ work and the region’s folk culture. About thirty contemporary artists and designers engage in dialogue with his oeuvre, with “Keikoppen”—a symbol of stubbornness and resilience—serving as the central theme. KEIKOPPEN invites visitors to rediscover De Gheus’ legacy in his authentic artist’s home and to experience his work from a contemporary perspective.
