On the occasion of the exhibition Sub terra, Maison des Arts welcomes a dozen international artists presenting works on the theme of memory and earth resources. The exhibition invites us to read our civilization in the form of stratigraphy. From the bowels of the earth to its epidermis, the artists illustrate our conflicting relationship with the underground world. Human beings mine, drill, and extract without complex, often in a power struggle with their fellow human beings as well as with the material itself, as if it were inexhaustible. The exposure of the gears of profit and their aberrations raise political, social and ecological questions.

To dig is also to travel to a previous future: from archaeology to funerary rites, religious or profane, it is under the surface that we dig up our history, and seek a place of eternal rest.
