Maarten Vanden Eynde

In the permanent exhibition of the Gallo-Roman Museum, you will temporarily find contemporary visual art. The works of three renowned Belgian artists, Kris Martin, Maarten Vanden Eynde and Cindy Wright, add extra meaning and experience. The extra experience they generate invites discussion. The Gallo-Roman Museum is a partner of MoMeNT. The central theme of this Tongeren cultural festival is 'time'. During the festival period, 'In situ' (Latin: 'on the spot') runs in the museum.

The creations of Maarten Vanden Eynde (Leuven, °1977) raise questions about the 'archaeology of the future'. What traces do we leave behind? How will archaeologists interpret them later? The installation with a Chihuahua catches the eye the most. Part of it is a concrete cover plate, found in the (far) future, with clearly visible paw prints of this 'extinct animal species'. The artist makes playful use of the presentation techniques in the museum and integrates the work almost seamlessly into the arrangement. This also applies to his 'IKEA Vase'. You will discover the 'reconstructed jug from the beginning of the 21st century' near authentic earthenware shards and jars from the Bandkeramian farmers who settled in our region around 5300 BC.
