On the 19th and 20th of August 1914, at the beginning of World War 1, Aarschot was hit hard. 173 civilians were executed in cold blood and more than 400 houses were put on fire. Thousands of people were forced to flee the city. In August 2014 these events are commemorated after 100 years. Who were the victims? The Hertogelijke Aarschotse Kring voor Heemkunde made a precise and complete list of all the civilian casualties with as much personal data as possible and CC Het Gasthuis invited 173 artists to work with one of them. In an extensive exhibition, which is part of the official commemoration around The Great War Centenary, 2014-18, all the victims are honored.
