It wont be long until we are emitting so much CO2 that the earth will have definitively heated up. The sea level keeps rising further, until all we can ask is: what next? Floods seem to be inevitable. Scientists think of possible future scenarios and desperately search for ways to keep our feet dry. Artists look at these developments from a different perspective. They depict our visions of the future in their own way. The group exhibition Next Flood focuses on the rising water levels. Next Flood is the first exhibition of the new year program What next? Wetenschappers bedenken mogelijke toekomstscenario’s en zoeken naarstig naar oplossingen voor droge voeten. Kunstenaars bekijken dergelijke ontwikkelingen vanuit een ander perspectief. Zij verbeelden de wijze waarop we naar de toekomst kijken op geheel eigen manier. De groepsexpositie Next Flood heeft het stijgende water als onderwerp. The Other Side is completely build up with pairs of objects, mirroring as it were itself. It is a reference to the biblical story of Noah, who stocked the Ark with a male and female of each species so that they could procreate after the impending flood. It hints at a new deluge but the title also suggests the possibility of an after life. The Other Side is made up of the traces of a person’s life: it contains a vast number of things that my mother has collected in the course of her life and forms both a reflection of herself and of the residue of late-20th-century and early-21st-century man.
